Samuel Washington Jenkins, 77, of Soddy-Daisy, died on Thursday, August 13, 2015.

He was a native of Bakewell and of the Church of God faith. Sam was self-employed in construction for 60 years as the owner of Sam’s Excavating. He enjoyed gardening and was well known for Sam and Shirley’s Chow Chow.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Mae and John Jenkins and sisters, Madge Johnson, Donna Hodge, Betty Wilkey and Faye Hankins. 

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Shirley Collins Jenkins; son, S. Curtis Jenkins (Brenda); daughters, Sheila Griffin (Willard), Angie Engle (Vaughn) and Amy Henderson (Matt); step-children, William Sanford (Sandra) and Trudie Freeman (Arvelle); sister, Hester Branam; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bishop Willard Griffin, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at East Soddy Community Cemetery.
Visitation is on Friday, Aug. 14, from 2-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
