Herman Mathis, 94, of Soddy-Daisy passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2009 in an area healthcare facility.

Mr. Mathis was an Army Veteran of WWII serving in the European Theater.

He retired from Wheland Foundry after 34 years of service and was of the Church of God faith.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Zona Mathis and Elizabeth Mathis; daughter, Alice Louise Mathis; parents, William Henry and Bethie Belle Mathis; sisters, Pauline Ellis and Annie Mathis.

Survivors include his sons, David Mathis of Chatsworth, GA and Sam Mathis of Soddy-Daisy; daughter, Mary Moore of Soddy-Daisy; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 10, 2009 in the Legacy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mitch McClure officiating. Interment will follow in Smith Cemetery with military honors. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2:00-9:00 PM on Sunday and from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. Arrangements are by locally owned and operated Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8911 Dallas Hollow Road, Soddy-Daisy, TN.
