Dr. Edward Owens, a retired teacher and dentist, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at his home in Soddy-Daisy. He was 79. Dr. Owens was a U.S. Army veteran, a deacon at Soddy-Daisy First Baptist Church and a graduate of Milligan College and Emory University. He was a dentist for 20 years in Soddy-Daisy, had taught chemistry and physics at Central and Soddy-Daisy high schools, and was a member of the retired teachers associations of Hamilton County and Tennessee.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche Owens, Soddy-Daisy; son, Edward Owens, Walland, Tenn.; sister, Ruth Sturgill, Wise, Va.; daughter, Debbie Owens, Red Bank; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Blanchard officiating. Burial will be in Millsaps Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Soddy-Daisy First Baptist Church.
