Ernest Kenneth Essex, 83, of Soddy-Daisy, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 15, 2022. He served for more than 60 years in the ministry and was the founder of Gospel Assembly Church. Kenneth worked as an upholster for most of his life. He was well known for his tomatoes and enjoyed working in his garden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Essie Essex and siblings, George, Buck, Stanley, Lawrence, Ruby and Alice.
Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Mereita Essex; daughter, Darlene Brown (Mike); grandson, Casey Thurman (Ashli); great grandsons, Preston and Peyton Thurman; very close friend, Shirley Roby; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will be on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Daniel Dowden officiating. Burial will follow at Dodd Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Moore, Rick Ables, Luke Stone, Larry Browder, William R. Johnson and Donnie Johnson. Visitation is Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
