Jesse R. Cantrell's graves stones include a United States military marker and a Masonic symbol. Jesse R., like many in the area, had a complicated Civil War service history. He first served in: Co A, 16th Tenn Inf, CSA He was discharged as over age, but after his brother died with the 16th at Perryville he re-enlisted in: Co E, 84th Tenn Inf, CSA Which was consolidated into: Co I, 28th Cons Tenn Inf, CSA After his nephew was killed by Confederate guerrillas he deserted his unit, came home and joined the Federals: Co F, 4th Tenn Mtd Inf, USA On 1 April 1865 he was kicked in the knee by a horse while serving as acting Forage Master for the 4th Tenn Mtd Inf. He limped for the rest of his life and eventually received a disability pension from the U.S. Government. Jesse R. joined Liberty Lodge 77, F.A.& M. on 1 Dec 1867 and remained a member until a couple of years before his death. Jesse R., like many in the area, had a complicated Civil War service history.
