William A. "Bill" Pate III, 73, electrical engineer and formerly Deputy Electrical Inspector for the State of Tennessee, died Sunday, May 14, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17 at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Covington with interment to follow in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16 at the Covington Funeral Home. A rosary service will begin at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with a wake service to follow at 7:30 p.m. He was a Korean War veteran of the U. S. Navy and a member of the Greater Memphis Square and Round Dance Association. Mr. Pate, the husband of Lou Pate, also leaves three daughters, Lynn Johnson of Arlington, Cindy Hill of Memphis and Dr. Linda Pate of Chattanooga; three sons, William A. Pate IV of Bartlett, John Pate of Brighton and Danny Pate of Cordova; one stepson, John R. Sanders Jr. of Roanoke, VA; one sister, Frances Hamby of Washington, DC; 17 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Frances Scott Veirs Pate; a daughter, Frances Ruth Pate; a stepson, Kenneth W. Sanders and a sister, Mary Lee Pate McLoughlin. The family request that any memorials be made to The Wings Foundation at The West Clinic.
