DAYTON — Jimmie "Jim" Barnes, 71, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, at his residence.
A longtime resident of Rhea County, he was vice mayor of Dayton City Council, founded Dayton All Sports Club in 1970, member of National Guard Association of Tennessee (NGAT), voice of the Rhea County Golden Eagles for 33 years for which he was recently honored by having the Press Box named in his honor. He was hunter and boating safety coordinator, law enforcement officer with TWRA and retired command sergeant-major with the 1st Squadron 278 ACR.
He was preceded in death by parents, Lum E. and Maggie Lee Henderson Barnes. Survivors: wife, Sonja "Dian" Barnes, Dayton; daughter, Gaye (Dale) Dotson; son, William (Kim) Barnes, all of Dayton; brother, John (Linda) Barnes; mother-in-law, Dorothy Kofr; godchildren, Bimbo McCawley, Courtney Carder, Gina Evans and Debbie Kelley; two grandchildren, Mika and Skylar Dotson; God grandchildren Carley and Camryn Carder, Taylor and Kaylee Kelly.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Dayton with the Rev. Milton Knox and the Rev. Tommy Wilkey officiating.
Burial in Rhea Memory Gardens with full military honors. Visitation 4 to 9 p.m. today.
Arrangements by Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home.
