Husband of: (1) Barbery E. Cooper, m. 1/25/1859 in Haywood Co., NC; and (2) Sarah Ann Shepherd Chandler, m. ca 1871.
On 12 Jul 1862, Thomas was enrolled in the Civil War by Colonel Robert Love for a term of 3-years. He served as a Private in Captain William J. Wilson's, Co B, 62nd NC Infantry Regiment, CSA.
On 09 Sep 1863, while his unit was in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, Thomas was captured by Union Forces and transferred to Camp Douglas, where he was processed in on 26 Sep 1863. Thomas was mustered out of service on 15 Jun 1865.
Around 1900, Thomas filed his soldiers application; Unit Served: 62nd North Carolina Infantry; State Served: TN; Application Type: Soldier; Application Number: S3483; Application Location: Hamblen, TN; Name: Bigham, T. P. appears on his Tennessee Confederate Application.
