David J. Masterson, a well-known member of the Chattanooga deaf community, died on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at Stratford House.
He graduated from Tennessee School for the Deaf in Knoxville and resided in the Soddy-Daisy and Chattanooga areas. He was a longstanding member of Middle Valley Church of Christ.
He also participated in the Tennessee Association for the Deaf as well as the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf. He was selected as the Tennessee "Handicap Person of the Year 1968/1969." Mr. Masterson worked at Brock Candy Company for 16 years.
Mr. Masterson was preceded in death by his father, Marvin J. Masterson; grandparents, Monroe Buck Masterson and Alta May Masterson, Samuel B. Geer and Ruth Geer.
He is survived by his daughter, Bliss Masterson, Fayetteville, NC; mother, Sarah Josephine Masterson, Chattanooga; grandson, Logan D. Beals, Chattanooga; sister, Doris (Jim) Jenkins, Harrison; two brothers, Donald (Carol) Masterson, Cleveland, TN, and Daniel (Nancy) Masterson, Macclenny, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, in the chapel of Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Minister Tony Walliser and Minister Larry Helms officiating. Interment will follow in Dividing Ridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Danny Masterson, Dennis Rhinehart, Ethan Geer, Jim Jenkins, Leroy Moores and Daniel Reavis.
Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and after 10 a.m. Wednesday.
