Clarence Byrd Sr., 62, of Signal Mountain, died on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at his residence.
He was the son of the late Clell and Etta Byrd. Clarence retired from Raines Brothers after 33 years of service, was a U.S. Navy veteran and of the Baptist faith. He was a cherished husband and father.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Daisy Krustner and Mae Dubs; four brothers, F.D., Jess, Harvey and Jimmy Byrd; and grandparents, Ryle and Texie Byrd and J. Hugh and Hester Barnett.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Zella Rose Byrd; daughters, Velda Griffith, Janine and Jessica Byrd, all of Signal Mountain, Kathleen Glascok and Dorrine Fordice, both of Huntsville, AL; sons, Dale Byrd, Chattanooga, Darrell, Clell, Joshua, Robert Byrd, all of Signal Mountain, and Stephen Fordice of Huntsville; sisters, Annie Byrd, Pennsylvania, Fannie Buchanan, NC, Lina Anderson, PA, and Faye Byrd, PA; brothers, Mack Byrd, SC, and Jack Byrd, NC; cousin, John Newton, Sale Creek, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Glenn Morgan officiating.
Interment will be in Sawyers Cemetery, Signal Mountain.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Baptist Church, 2016 Corral Road, Signal Mountain, TN 37377, or to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4355 Highway 58, Suite 101, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
