LIEUTENANT Company H 36 Tennessee Infantry
Enlisted on 7 Aug 1861, at Cleveland, Bradley Co. TN. Served from 1 Feb 1862 to 13 May 1862.
Union Veteran:
PRIVATE Company F 6th Tennessee Mounted Infantry
Enlisted on 1 Dec 1864 at Harrison, Hamilton Co. Tn - both he and his wife received a Union pension
Son of William and Adoline Champion of Ooltewah. Farmed at Harrison, Hamilton County, prior to the war.
After the war, he was elected Sheriff of Hamilton County, Tennessee, and served as such from 1874-1878. Wife was Jane E. Smith. He died at his Harrison Road farm and was originally buried in his family burial ground. Later his body was moved to its present location.
