Sterling was born June 15, 1789 Hawkins Co, TN & died August 12, 1859 at Mooresburg, Hawkins Co, TN
He was admitted to the bar in 1812. Represented Grainger County in 1815 State Legislature, State Senator 1817, Solicitor General of the 3rd District of Tennessee 1817 - 1835
Married 1st Eliza M Massengill (c. 1796 - January 31, 1816 ) {D/O William Massengill of Buffalo Creek,Grainger Co. She is buried at Buffalo Creek)
They had one son - William Michael Cocke 1815 - 1895
Married 2nd Caroline Jones around 1818 in Springfield Kentucky - {D/O Mary Cocke & Richard Jones}
They had 5 Children:
