JOHN HAROLD GEORGE JR., 78, of Bartlett, retired chemist for Firestone and former Bartlett alderman, died Thursday at his home. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Parkway Chapel with burial in Bartlett-Ellendale Cemetery.
He was a World War II veteran, the recipient of a Purple Heart and bronze star, a graduate of Memphis State College and a member of Bartlett zoning and historical boards, Bartlett United Methodist Church steward board and Tiger Clubs.
Mr. George, the widower of Carolyn Virginia George, leaves a daughter, Meg Hill of Brentwood, Tenn.; a son, Alan George of Bartlett; two brothers, Ralph George of Memphis and Marshall George of Bartlett, and six grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Bartlett United Methodist Church Building Fund.
