Pastor Alvin Thomas Pirtle went home to be with Jesus, Friday, March 6, 2015 at the age of 85 after a brief illness. He was born on July 26, 1929 to Maddie and Jesse Pirtle. He served his term in the Korean War and afterwards worked various jobs before he surrendered to the ministry in 1956. He graduated from New Orleans Theological Seminary and has over the course of 59 years served as a pastor for churches in TN, Ark., and Missouri. His life illustrates a deep faith in Jesus Christ and has touched countless lives with his love, laughter, wisdom and passion for Christ. He will be missed greatly by his family and all who knew him. Beloved husband, daddy, grandfather, pastor and friend ... He has left a great legacy of love and Godly example. Pastor Pirtle is survived by his wife Shirley of 56 years; his daughter, Camille Vollmer and grandchildren, Madison, Trace , Greyson and Cade Vollmer. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother and a nephew. Visitation will be held Tues. March 10, 2015 from 12-3 with the service following at 3 at First Baptist Church on 59 South , Covington, Tn. Interment with military honors will follow in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery.
