He was a member and former pastor of the Laager Congregational Methodist Church. The Rev. Mr. Brown was ordained in the Congregational Methodist Church in September 1942. He also served as pastor of the Bivens Chapel, Barkers Cove, Chestnut Springs, and Graces Village Congregational Methodist Churches. The Rev. Mr. Brown was a former president and secretary of the Eastern Tennessee Annual Church Conference. He also was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, having retired after more than 37 years as a coal miner.
